All-new Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid

The Prius continues to pioneer and inspire the future
05/12/2022
The eye-catching fifth-generation Toyota Prius writes the next chapter in a pioneering story of engineering innovation and dynamic design, maintaining its proud tradition of challenging convention.

Innovative new plug-in hybrid technology

The new Prius introduces Toyota’s latest Plug-in Hybrid system. Its higher capacity 13.6 kWh lithium-ion battery gives the Prius an EV range of up to 69 km. The powerful 2-litre engine gives flexibility and convenience for longer distances. Higher energy-density cells allows the compact battery pack to be installed under the rear passenger seat, lowering the centre of gravity. In the quest for maximum efficiency, clean energy can also be generated optionally by the solar roof. It can generate 8 km of EV range every day – or fully charge the battery over several days.

Modern elegant exterior

The Prius’ famously distinctive styling is taken to a new, more dynamic level by an eye-catching coupe-like silhouette. The iconic wedge shape has also evolved, embracing elegant modern lines. Unnecessary forms and lines were discarded, leaving a simple and clean overall design inspired by the natural flow of air. The distinctive shape is enhanced by 50 mm longer wheelbase. On its front, a hammerhead motif elegantly integrates lights which accentuate the distinctive form. The rear view is accented by a 3D linear lighting element emphasising progressive design and focusing attention on the bold Prius logo.

Spacious, stylish interior

For driver and passengers alike, the surroundings are spacious and constructed from stylish, high-value materials. The driver module is based around a 7-inch TFT LCD screen which enhances safety by keeping a driver’s eyes on the road. The newly designed instrument panel prioritises cabin comfort, a clean lay-out with minimal intrusion into the driver’s forward vision, usability and appearance. It combines a discreet, lower central screen and slim air conditioning controls. Instrument panel illumination is linked to notifications from Toyota Safety Sense and expresses alerts through light intensity.

Superior safety with T-Mate

Toyota T-Mate enables a wider range of risk detection and active safety functions. An enhanced front camera sensor detects nearby objects earlier, and identifies a wider range of potential hazards. Front side radar sensors support the Pre-Collision System, Lane Trace Assist and Front Cross Traffic Alert. The new Intersection Collision Avoidance Support reacts to oncoming traffic and vehicles passing across a junction. Deceleration Assist slows the vehicle intelligently. Steering Assist detects the upcoming road direction and adapts the power steering strength to aid smoother cornering.
Since its launch in 1997, the Prius has made a lasting impact on Toyota and the world, establishing itself as an authentic automotive icon by emphasising electrification and fearlessly setting future trends. The new generation, which will be available exclusively as a Plug-in Hybrid in Europe, takes the next step in that journey.
